Theresa May takes cue from Italian counterpart around pool table

Theresa May showed she was prepared to take her cue from a European leader as she joined him in a game of pool.

The Prime Minister was filmed learning how to hold a pool cue with her Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte on Sunday night.

Mr Conte posted a video online showing a group gathered around a pool table, and he hands a cue to Mrs May, inviting her to play.

In the video, captioned “Let’s play pool @theresa_may”, the Prime Minister can be heard telling Mr Conte that she will be “hopeless” and that he will have to show her how to play.

After Mr Conte takes a shot, he invites Mrs May over to one end of the table and chalks her cue.

At this point, Mrs May’s chief of staff Gavin Barwell begins to explain and demonstrate how she should hold the cue.

Sadly, the video cuts out before Mrs May takes a shot, leaving viewers with a cliffhanger ending.

Both Mrs May and Mr Conte are in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt for a summit of EU and Arab leaders.

Retweeting the video, Chief Secretary to the Treasury Liz Truss, joked: “Pleased to see nothing’s been taken off the table.”
