Dad converts dining room into Boeing 737 flight simulator (and is paying it off at £95 a lesson)

Homeowners would usually spend £15,000 renovating their kitchen with new tiles, a lick of paint or maybe a new oven but David Naylor from Barnsley decided to spend the money building a full-sized flight simulator of a Boeing 737.

The father-of-two has taken a unique approach to teaching people to fly by building a plane cockpit in his home where a dining area should be.

He is now commanding around £95 per lesson without having to leave his home.

The former catering manager said he began to build his flight simulator more than a year ago after being made redundant.

He said: "I've always been into planes and flight simulations since I was a child and I got made redundant about 16 months ago and after watching videos on social media, I started to build my own."

With the help of tutorials on YouTube, Mr Naylor set about buying parts from around the world to complete his build and his hobby has now become a business, with a three-week waiting list for those wanting to learn how to fly.

Despite Mr Naylor's children thinking it's "a bit mad", he has had "people of all ages" come to his Barnsley dining room to learn a new skill.

"It was a hobby, it took me by surprise, I'm just taking it as the days come but I'm booked up three weeks in advanced and I'll just see where it goes." Mr Naylor said.
