Striker Danny Ings has joined Southampton on a season-long loan which will be made permanent at the end of the 2018-19 season.

The 26-year-old joined the Reds from Burnley but has seen his stint at Anfield disrupted by injury.

Ings is now potentially joining hometown club Southampton on loan with a view to a permanent deal after a deal sheet was submitted.

Page 2: 20:31Southampton later confirmed the signing of Ings on an initial loan which will lead to a £20million permanent deal.

It is understood the Saints, who originally released Ings when he was 10 because he was too small, will pay £18m up front, with a further £2m due based on the number of appearances he makes, and Liverpool will also receive a 20 per cent sell-on fee.

Southampton were always Ings' first choice when it became apparent he would have to leave Anfield after three years - two seasons of which were decimated by serious knee injuries - to get regular first-team football.
