Aston Villa defender John Terry is "devastated" after breaking his foot in his side's defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

The former England midfielder limped off during the first half of the Sky Bet Championship clash and scans have shown a fracture to the fifth metatarsal.

Terry took to Instagram to share his dismay at the injury which could rule him out for a number of months.

He posted: "Devastated is an understatement to how I'm feeling tonight, after my CT scan I have just had news that I have broken my 5th metatarsal.

"I will be doing everything I can to get back fit as soon as possible."

Villa suffered just their second loss since August, going down 2-1, and boss Steve Bruce was hoping for good news on Terry's lay-off.

"The loss of key players is critical to all of us, especially when it is someone like John Terry," Bruce said.

"Fitness-wise John was in good nick. Let's hope the injury is not so bad and he will be out for six weeks and not 12 weeks."
