Trump removes Scaramucci from White House communications director job

Donald Trump has removed Anthony Scaramucci from his position as White House communications director, just 10 days after he was appointed.

It comes days after Mr Scaramucci launched a foul-mouthed tirade against other senior members of the administration during a phone call with a The New Yorker journalist.

This included an attack on then chief of staff Reince Priebus, who has since been sacked from the role and replaced by General John F. Kelly.

"Anthony Scaramucci will be leaving his role as White House Communications Director," a statement from the press secretary said.

"Mr Scaramucci felt it was best to give Chief of Staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team. We wish him all the best."

Initial reports suggested Mr Scaramucci could remain employed at the White House in another position, although White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters that he did not have a role at present.

Ms Sanders said the president felt Mr Scaramucci's comments to the New Yorker were “inappropriate” and did not want to "burden" General Kelly "with that line of succession".

On Monday evening, President Trump tweeted it had been a "great day" at the White House.

Wall Street financier Mr Scaramucci's appointment led to the resignation of Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who was opposed to the move.

Mr Scaramucci came to the job from Wall Street after making a name for himself as a hedge fund manager who appeared on television.

The 53-year-old, who has known Mr Trump for years, is the founder and managing partner of investment firm SkyBridge Capital.

Before founding SkyBridge in 2005, Mr. Scaramucci co-founded investment partnership Oscar Capital Management, and he was also a vice president in private wealth management at Goldman Sachs & Co, according to his profile on the SkyBridge Capital website.
