Late Chile goals beat Cameroon 2-0 in Confederations Cup
Chile scored twice in the final 10 minutes to beat Cameroon 2-0 in a Confederations Cup match with several VAR-related talking points.
Alexis Sanchez crossed for Arturo Vidal to head home the opening goal after 80 minutes, before Edu Vargas scored off a rebound from a saved Alexis shot.
But there was a delay in Chile's celebrations on the latter goal, after the assistant's flag went up for an apparent offside - only for the video assistant referee to overrule the decision and award the goal.
That wasn't the first time the VAR system came into play in the match, either.
Right on half time, Chile thought they had taken the lead when Vargas slotted past Cameroon goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa, only for the video review to rule it out for offside.
Chile, who were by far the better in the opening stages, were left frustrated and struggled to regain consistency after the break.
The introduction of Alexis proved pivotal, as he delivered a pinpoint cross for Vidal to power home Chile's first of the night before embarking on a solo run looking for a goal of his own.
Just one short of becoming his nation's all-time highest scorer, eclipsing Marcelo Salas, Alexis beat the offside trap and rounded the goalkeeper, only for his shot to be blocked.
Vargas followed up to notch Chile's second in the 90th minute and wrap up the points in Group B's opening match.
