Rafa Benitez staying on at Newcastle after 'positive' talks with Mike Ashley

Rafa Benitez will stay on as Newcastle United manager after positive talks with owner Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley.

It was confirmed in the meeting that Benitez will be given money to spend in order to ensure Newcastle maintain their status in the Premier League.

There had be reports that Benitez would consider leaving St James' Park if he wasn't given money to purchase new players for the season, but Ashley has moved to reassure the former Liverpool manager.

Ashley said: “I’ve confirmed to Rafa and Lee that they can have every last penny that the club generates through promotion, player sales and other means in order to build for next season."
