Bottom club Newport failed to make the most of their game in hand as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Morecambe.

Graham Westley's men took the lead through Aaron Williams' strike, but Michael Rose's equaliser leaves them six points adrift of third-bottom Hartlepool.

Williams made the most of Ryan Bird's mis-hit shot to tap Newport into an 18th-minute lead.

But Morecambe, who had lost just once in nine matches going into the game, equalised in the 64th minute when a free-kick from Rose deceived goalkeeper Joe Day and nestled in the net.

Colchester moved into the play-off places with a 1-0 win against Wycombe.

A stunning strike from distance from defender George Elokobi in the 13th minute was enough for the U's to claim victory.

Adebayo Akinfenwa spurned three chances and Elokobi cleared off the line from Paris Cowan-Hall as Wycombe pushed for an equaliser.

Kurtis Guthrie came close to doubling Colchester's advantage before Wycombe defender Joe Jacobson was sent off with two minutes remaining for a second bookable offence.

Accrington's home clash with Cambridge was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
