No one usually bothers to rate the referee, but we've made an exception on this occasion.

Here are the player ratings first.

West Ham United

Darren Randolph - 7

Wasn't needed much throughout the game. Conceded two goals which were unstoppable. Made a key save on the line to deny Antonio Valencia

Winston Reid - 7

Kept a good defensive line with Ogbonna. Kept Zlatan Ibrahimovic quiet for the majority of the game.

Angelo Ogbonna - 7

Will feel hard done by to concede when Zlatan was offside. Worked well with Reid. Forced Zlatan Ibrahimovic offside many times.

Aaron Cresswell - 5

Defended well. Didn't offer much going forward, but didn't have much opportunity due to the lack of possession.

Harvard Nordtveit - 5

The right back opening hour, but struggled once Marcus Rashford came on to make the difference after the break.

Sofiane Feghouli - 4

Unlucky to be sent off early on for a tackle with Phil Jones.

Cheikhou Kouyate - 6

Two footed tackle off the ground from the midfielder on Henrik Mkhitaryan. Lucky not to be booked or even sent off.

Manuel Lanzini - 7

Forced David De Gea to make two good saves. The most lively of all the West Ham players.

Pedro Obiang - 5

Made to work defensively. His mistake led to United's second goal

Dimitri Payet - 5

Had a quiet game. Looks tired or distracted by transfer rumours.

Michail Antonio - 6

Moved to a striker position before the introduction of Andy Carroll. Had a few chances but didn't take them at key moments

Subs

Andy Carroll - 6Edimilson Fernandes - 6Andre Ayew - 6

Manchester United

David de Gea - 7

Pulled off some great saves from Lanzini and Antonio. Had to be alert.

Phil Jones - 6

Booed for the majority of the game after Feghouli was sent off. Solid display.

Marcos Rojo - 6

Shifted around from centre-back to left-back with relative ease.

Paul Pogba - 7

Range of passing was excellent. Needs to provide more assists but a dominant midfield display.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - 6

Getting used to quiet performances but a goal from Zlatan. Was clearly offside but the goal stood.

Jesse Lingard - 5Wasn't as effective as when Manchester United played West Brom away. Jose brought the youngster in looking for a performance and didn't get it. Righty subbed.

Michael Carrick - 6

Another player who changed position throughout the game. Started in front of the centre backs then moved to centre back then moved back to become a defensive midfielder. Calming presence on the pitch.

Ander Herrera - 7

Comfortable in midfield alongside Carrick and Pogba. Covered the majority of the pitch either in attack or defence. Future leader.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan - 5

Had a quiet game. Good spells but never ever really in the game. On the receiving end of a poor tackle.

Antonio Valencia - 5

Should have scored the first goal for the visitors.

Matteo Darmian - 6 Got forward often but not convincing at left back.

Subs

Mata - 6

Smalling - 5

Marcus Rashford - 8

Turned the game in United' favour with his relentless running down the left, setting up Mata for the opener.

Mike Dean had a bad day. Credit: PA

RefereeMike Dean - 4

Poor performance from the referee and his officials. Feghouli didn't deserve a red card and should have been booked. Challenge on Mkhitaryan didn't see Kouyate get a booking. Dean and his officials missed three players offside for the second United goal.
