Marco van Ginkel has joined PSV Eindhoven on loan for a second time on the day that Chelsea announced they have extended his contract.

The 24-year-old Holland midfielder had a successful spell at the Philips Stadion last season, winning the league title with PSV, and returns after recovering from a knee injury as Chelsea allow him to leave for the remainder of the season.

The Premier League leaders announced: "Marco van Ginkel has extended his contract with Chelsea until 2019. The Dutch midfielder will now spend the rest of the 2016/17 season on loan with PSV."

The extension is for one year to the five-year deal he signed when joining Chelsea from Vitesse Arnhem in 2013.

He spent the first half of last term on loan to Stoke, before moving on to Dutch giants PSV in the winter transfer window.

Van Ginkel is confident he is at full match fitness again and ready to contribute after putting the knee problem behind him.

He said, quoted on PSV's website: "I'm glad I chose this route. Rest and physiotherapy were necessary. I am now ready for top football and am glad PSV gives me that opportunity. I came here last season had a great time and I hope that we can match it."
