'I'm going to die mum': Oakland fire victim's last text revealed
One of the victims of the Oakland warehouse fire sent a text saying: "I'm going to die mum" after realising there was no way out.
The mother of the victim told police she woke up to the heartbreaking message - but by then it was too late.
Another victim texted their family: "I'm going to die" before sending a final message which simply said: "I love you."
Three dozen people have been confirmed dead in the catastrophic fire that swept through the Ghost Ship warehouse in Oakland during a party.
Fire services who have been painstakingly combing the building revealed many bodies were found "protecting each other, holding each other".
Witnesses on the night said the wood-framed building was maze-like and unsafe.
While former resident Shelley Mack branded it a "death trap".
Officials said that the lengthy search of the building is now coming to an end and they do not believe any more bodies will be found.
However Alameda County Sheriff Gregory Ahern added it was "impossible to be absolutely positive" about the number killed until the entire recovery effort is complete.
It has emerged a faulty refrigerator may have been the cause of the fire, although that is not yet confirmed.
The district attorney warned of possible murder charges as she determines whether there were any crimes linked to the blaze.
"We owe it to the community and those who perished in this fire, and those who survived the fire to be methodical, to be thorough, and to take the amount of time it takes to be able to look at every piece of potential evidence," Nancy O'Malley said.
