Rise in cost of Christmas pudding blamed on Brexit

The spiralling cost of this year's Christmas pudding is being blamed on Brexit, after the collapse in the pound means ingredients have risen in cost by 21%.

Analysts say the price of raisins, butter, flour and sugar have soared since last year, with Britons facing a significantly larger bill for their Christmas shop.

The report by data expert Mintec warned that "prices are likely to rise in December" and advises consumers to stock up early.

Since the UK voted to leave the EU, the cost of importing food has risen, affecting ingredients like raisins and flour. Butter is at its highest level in five years because of a drop in milk production.

Both factors have led to a spike in the cost of the Christmas pudding.

However, it's not all bad news.

The report also revealed that the price of turkey and vegetables remained broadly the same, so the traditional Christmas roast should remain good value for money.
