Around 15 million British shoppers expected to spend £1 billion on goods during Cyber Monday

An estimated 15 million people in Britain are expected to head online for Cyber Monday sales bargains and spend £1.1 billion.

Many retailers have promised new deals for the culmination of the four-day pre-Christmas shopping frenzy, which began with Black Friday.

Over the four-day period, Britons will spend a total of £5.8 billion - a 15% increase on last year, according to VoucherCodes.co.uk and the Centre for Retail Research (CRR).

Around 14 million British shoppers were predicted to go on a record-setting £1.97 billion spending spree on Black Friday, with more than half spent on the internet.

Cyber Monday has always been a strictly 24-hour online-only event, as opposed to Black Friday, which occurs both in stores and online.

However, analysts say the short-lived shopping bonanza has evolved into a more extended period, as consumers learn to track prices and compare deals between retailers in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
