Hamilton cast call out Mike Pence over Trump administration
The cast of wildly popular broadway show Hamilton: An American Musical publicly called out US politician Mike Pence on stage, after he was spotted in the audience.
Earlier in the evening, the Vice President-elect caused a stir in New York as security trailed him outside the theatre.
Once inside, Pence was loudly booed by the audience as he made his way into his seat with his family.
After the show, Brandon Dixon, who plays the lead, came to the front of the stage and read out a message from the cast to Pence, saying that the "diverse" group were "anxious" about the Trump administration.
"We truly thank you for joining us here. We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us.
"We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all Americans."
The musical follows American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, who was opposed to slavery and is rumoured to have been gay.
Donald Trump's proposed administration has so far seen those on the most right-wing fringes of the Republican Party - opposed to immigration and LGBTQ rights - being placed in senior positions.
Vice President-elect Pence himself believes that gay people can be "cured" through "conversion therapy", which can take the form of electroshock therapy, aversion therapy, and treating sexuality as an addiction.
The controversial practice is banned in US several states.
