Is the M&S Christmas advert the best festive campaign this year?

M&S has unveiled its Christmas advert – and viewers seem to prefer it to John Lewis's festive offering.

The twinkly commercial features Mrs Claus, a James Bond-style hero who saves the day for a little boy called Jake.

After packing her husband off on the biggest night of the year armed with tea and cheese and pickle sandwiches, Mrs Claus, played by British actor Janet McTeer, gets to work.

She reads a letter from young Jake who's spent the last year squabbling with his big sister Anna at their home in London.

He asks for help getting the perfect present – a pair of red trainers – after his dog tore her old ones apart.

Mrs Claus helps out in her own stylish way, flying from Lapland across London in her helicopter.

As she departs, it magically begins to snow, delivering a white Christmas for all to enjoy.

She makes it back home, just in time for Santa Claus's return at the start of Christmas Day.

M&S boss Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne said: "Mrs Claus is the result of thousands of conversations that we had with our customers to understand what they want from M&S – which is warmth, empathy and a touch of humour presented in a modern and contemporary way.

"She epitomises the huge efforts our customers put in to making the festive season special and represents the love and togetherness that customers want to feel and see in abundance at Christmas."
