Rangers terminate midfielder Barton contract

Rangers have announced that they have agreed to terminate the contract of midfielder Joey Barton with immediate effect.

The former Newcastle United and Manchester City midfielder was recently suspended for six weeks after a dressing dispute with Andy Halliday and Mark Watburton following a loss to Celtic.

Barton was then signed off from the club with stress after being forced to train with the club's under-20's team.

As rumour of his departure spread, Barton has been linked with a return to Burnley in January.
