Toblerone faces backlash after size reduction
The makers of Toblerone have faced a backlash from customers after reducing the size of two of its bars in the UK.
Mondalez International has increased the gap between the peaks of the famous chocolate to reduce the weight of its 400g and 170g bars.
The company, which also owns Cadbury, said the move was due to the higher cost of ingredients.
In a statement released on their Facebook page, they said: "Toblerone remains one of the best value and most delicious Swiss chocolate products in the market.
"This is because we always work hard to ensure we offer value for money for our consumers, but like many other companies, we are experiencing higher costs for numerous ingredients.
"We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products."
The move has resulted in the weight of a 400g bar being reduced to 360g, whilst the 170g bar now weighs 150g. The packaging will remain the same.
