Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has not trained with the Scottish club since Friday after being signed off with stress.

The former Manchester City and Newcastle United midfielder was suspended in early September following a confrontation with manager Mark Warburton and Andy Halliday.

Barton trained on Thursday with the youth team, but then received a letter from his GP in order to permit a leave of absence from work.

It is expected that Barton will soon leave Ibrox permanently as the club and his representatives discuss the termination of his contract.
