Choose Facebook: Trainspotting sequel trailer released
The trailer for the long-awaited Trainspotting sequel - T2 - has been released, 20 years after the original first hit the cinema.
The preview reunites director Danny Boyle with its original stars Ewan McGregor, Johnny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle and Ewen Bremner.
In a tweet on Thursday morning, McGregor said: "T2, coming soon!"
The trailer opens with McGregor's character Mark Renton returning to visit his old friends in Edinburgh.
Under the famous song Born Slippy by Underworld - which featured heavily in the original soundtrack - Renton reprises his bitter "choose life" motto, but updates them with modern references: "Choose Facebook, choose Twitter, choose Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares."
He also refers to choosing zero-hour contracts and reality TV before saying: "Choose to smother the pain with an unknown dose of an unknown drug."
Trainspotting was released in 1996 and followed a group of heroin addicts and explored the themes around urban poverty.
It was based on the Irvine Walsh novel, whilst the sequel is based on his book Porno.
The trailer ends with Renton saying: "You're an addict so be addicted, just be addicted to something else. Choose the ones you love, choose your future, choose life."
T2 Trainspotting will be released in UK cinemas on January 27.
