Jo Cox's husband Brendan, has said his family is still having "dark and difficult" days following her death on June 16.

Speaking on the Andrew Marr show on BBC, Mr Cox said he was also personally still in a state of "shock and disbelief".

But he thanked the many people who had been in touch to offer their love and support since his wife was killed.

He added that he was trying now to focus on her life rather than the way she died, and is determined to continue her legacy of optimism and standing up to extremism.

Mr Cox said he understood the concerns of people who are worried about the impact of large-scale immigration but believed it is more important to focus on what brings people together rather than fuelling division.

He added: "I certainly think on issues like immigration there has been a complacency on one side, and a willingness to weaponise the issue on the other side.

"So I think on the Right...you had a willingness, even among people who are in no way xenophobic themselves, to use this issue to try and galvanise political support.

"And I think on the Left you had a willingness to ignore the issue."

Looking to the future, Mr Cox said he was now hoping to use nearly £2 million raised in respond to his wife's death, to spend on good causes that she believed in, through the 'Jo Cox Foundation'.
