Father who raped daughter, 12, jailed for just 60 days
A judge has come under fire after sentencing a father who repeatedly raped his 12-year-old daughter to jail - for just 60 days.
Tens of thousands of people have now signed a Change.org petition to impeach Judge John McKeon, based in Montana, over what is perceived as a lenient sentence.
The man, 40, admitted raping his daughter numerous times and the prosecution recommended he spend 25 years in prison.
Instead, he was jailed for 60 days, but taking into account time already served he would only spend 43 days in prison.
Now the Change.org petition, which has already reach over 62,000 signatures, is calling for sentencing judge McKeon to be removed from the bar.
McKeon defended himself against criticism, saying the plea agreement allowed for a lesser sentence depending on the results of a psychosexual evaluation.
He said the evaluation found that the defendant could be safely treated and supervised in the community.
McKeon also has noted that the victim's mother and grandmother asked that the defendant not be sentenced to prison.
The petition requires 75,000 signatures before it can be passed to senators.
