Pentonville prisoners arrested after inmate stabbed to death

Two prisoners have been arrested after a stabbing at London's Pentonville Prison that left an inmate dead and two others in a critical condition.

Scotland Yard launched a murder investigation on Tuesday afternoon after officers and paramedics found three prisoners with stab wounds.

One victim, a man in his twenties, was pronounced dead at the north London jail at 4.25pm.

Two other men, aged 21 and 30, were taken to an east London hospital in a critical condition.

Two prisoners, aged 34 and 26, were arrested following the attack.

A Met Police spokesman said: "Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating. Further enquiries into the incident continue."

HMP Pentonville is a category B prison holding more than 1,200 inmates.

According to a HM Inspectorate of Prisons report last year, many inmates at Pentonville were reported to feel "unsafe" while levels of violence were found to be much higher than in similar prisons.
