FA did 'due diligence' on Sam Allardyce before appointing him England boss - Greg Clarke
Football Association chairman Greg Clarke says the organisation did their "due diligence" on Sam Allardyce before appointing him England manager.
Speaking to a parliamentary select committee, Clarke admitted the FA looked into Allardyce background.
Clarke and Allardyce only had two weeks together at the FA, something the chairman made clear throughout the day.
Allardyce left his role as manager after just 67 days in charge following an undercover Telegraph investigation caught him making indiscreet comments.
But neither Clarke nor the FA's director of strategy, Robert Sullivan, who was at the FA when Allardyce was appointed, were able to say if Allardyce was questioned about the corruption claims made about him and his son Craig, an agent, by the BBC's Panorama in 2006.
Clarke did admit that Allardyce required paying off after his premature exit from the England manager's job.
