Melania Trump condemns husband's lewd comments about women

Donald Trump's wife has condemned his lewd comments about women.

In a statement, Melania Trump said: "The words my husband used are unacceptable and offensive to me.

"It does not represent the man that I know. He has the heart and mind of a leader."

She added she hoped people would accept his apology "as I have" and "focus on the important issues facing our nation and the world"

Trump was caught on tape in 2005 making lewd comments about kissing and trying to have sex with women.

But the footage only came to light on Friday after it was obtained by the Washington Post.

In it, Trump is heard boastings about his past liaisons, saying: "When you’re a star, they let you do it".

"Grab them by the p***y - you can do anything," he adds.

The Republican candidate has since apologised for the comments saying the words "do not reflect who I am".

But despite the scandal, Trump said he would "never" pull out the US presidential race.

  • Who is Melania Trump?

The 46-year-old Slovenian is a former model who moved to the United States in 1996.

She met Trump at a fashion week party two years later while he was still married - but separated - from his second wife Marla Maples.

The pair became engaged in 2004 and married in January 2005 in Palm Beach, Florida.

The couple have a 10-year-old son together named Barron William Trump, who Melania reportedly nicknames 'mini-Donald'.

Melania is said to speak five languages and runs a jewellery business through shopping channel QVC.

She recently faced embarrassment for delivering a speech which appeared to be heavily copied from one Michelle Obama gave in 2008.
