England captain Wayne Rooney says it's a shame that Sam Allardyce was forced to leave his job after just one game in charge.

Allardyce and the Football Association parted ways after the former Bolton manager was caught out by undercover reporters from The Telegraph.

Gareth Southgate is now in charge for the upcoming games against Malta and Slovenia after taking up the role of interim manager.

Rooney, who has retained the captaincy, will be hoping to impress for England after being dropped by Manchester United.
