Anastacia given go-ahead to perform on Strictly after tearing mastectomy scar

Pop star Anastacia has been cleared by a doctor to perform on this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing show after she tore her mastectomy scar.

The 48-year-old, who is dancing with Brendan Cole on the show, was forced to change last weekend's Salsa routine last minute after she tore the scar tissue from a double mastectomy she had in 2013.

She narrowly avoided being sent home as she was in the bottom two following the first public vote of the series.

Unable to compete in the dance-off, the decision fell to the public vote, and Anastacia and Brendan remained in the competition after receiving more votes than DJ Melvin Odoom and partner Janette Manrara.

A BBC spokesman said: "Anastacia visited the clinic of a specialist in breast reconstruction surgery. The doctor again confirmed that there was a tear in the scar tissue, which although painful is not permanent.

"She was given the all-clear to dance this weekend with the caveat that the routine is carefully choreographed and she has been given the appropriate medication."

Anastacia is donating her Strictly fee to a breast cancer charity, and the spokesman added: "She is doing this to raise money for breast cancer, so unless a doctor tells her she can't carry on, quitting would never be an option."
