Brangelina: Their 12-year love story in pictures
One of Hollywood's great romances has come to and end after Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after two years of marriage.
The pair's relationship has not been without controversy - having blossomed while filming 2005 action movie Mr & Mrs Smith - when Pitt was married to former Friends star Jennifer Anniston.
Jolie and Pitt said they fell in love during filming but insist there was no on-set romance.
That year Jolie adopted her second child, Zahara, having already adopted Cambodian-born Maddox in 2002. She said she had made the decision together with Pitt.
And in 2006 the supercouple, dubbed "Brangelina", announced they were expecting their first biological child together.
Jolie was pictured fulfilling duties as Goodwill Ambassador at the UN Annual Meeting in Davos in January while pregnant, and later gave birth to a baby girl, Shiloh, in May.
The couple insisted that year they would only wed when "everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able".
Despite shunning matrimony, the Brangelina clan continued to grow quickly, with the adoption of Vietnamese orphan, Pax, in 2007.
And a year later Jolie gave birth to twins: a boy, Knox, and a girl, Vivienne. Her youngest daughter went on to play a small role in Jolie's movie Maleficent.
The Hollywood sweethearts confirmed their engagement in 2012 after Jolie was spotted wearing an engagement ring, reportedly worth $250,000.
Trying times soon followed and in 2013 Jolie revealed she had taken the decision to have a double mastectomy because cancer runs in her family.
Jolie was applauded for her honesty and for giving hope to other women affected by the dangerous cancer gene - known as BRCA1.
The Oscar for Best Picture at the 2014 Oscars was given to 12 Years a Slave, which Pitt co-produced and starred in.
At the ceremony Jolie was honoured with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
The same year the couple got married at their $60 million Chateau Miraval estate in France, with Jolie wearing a dress partly designed by her children.
Part of their honeymoon was spent filming a joint project, By The Sea.
It premiered at the AFI festival in Hollywood, and Brangelina's appearance at the star-studded event in November 2015 was their last together on the red carpet as a couple.
Jolie has filed for divorce from Pitt citing "irreconcilable differences", marking an end to their 12-year relationship.
