iOS 10: What's new and when can users download it?
The latest version of iOS, complete with more emojis and a new notification system for lock screens is to be released on Tuesday.
The new mobile operating system which powers the iPhone and iPad also sees virtual assistant Siri being able to integrate into more apps.
Among other new features, users will be able to:
Send messages in their own handwriting or in invisible ink
Send animations which take over the whole screen
Draw on photos and videos
Spell check is better able to understand context
Type in different languages without having to change the keyboard
Send stickers
Find stories that they are more likely to be interested in with a redesigned News app
See a snapshot of their calendar as they share plans with other users
From 6pm on Tuesday evening owners of iPhone 5s and newer versions of the device, and iPad mini 2s and newer will be able to download iOS 10.
The new software will also include more artificial intelligence, with the Photos app better able to identify and show pictures in the library based on time, location, people and even the items in them.
Apple Music has also undergone a redesign, having been criticised for being too confusing when it launched last year.
The new iPhone 7, which along with the larger 7 Plus will go on sale in the UK on Friday, will come with the new software built in.
Who can get the new update?
iPhone users need to have an iPhone 5 or newer in order to be eligible for the download, so those with a 5, 5c, 5s, SE, 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus will be able to upgrade.
iPad users with an iPad mini 2,3 or 4, the iPad fourth generation, iPad Air and Air 2 and both sizes of iPad Pro will also be able to update, as will the iPod Touch sixth generation users.
How do you download iOS 10?
User need to go to their Settings app, and then the General section, before selecting Software Update, iOS 10 will then be available for users to approve and download.
Do users need to do anything else?
Before carrying out an update, users should back up files onto a computer or in iCloud in order to avoid any data loss during the switch.
