Married mother and daughter facing incest charges

A mother and daughter who married each other are facing incest charges.

Patricia Ann Spann, 43, wed her 23-year-old daughter earlier this year in Oklahoma - having also married her son a few years earlier.

On Wednesday, Spann and her daughter Misty Velvet Dawn Spann appeared in an Oklahoma court.

Under state law, marrying a close relative is considered incest whether or not a sexual relationship has taken place.

According to a police statement, officers learned about the marriage last month during a child welfare investigation.

Patricia Spann allegedly told a child services investigator she had lost custody of three children - eventually adopted by their paternal grandmother - and reunited with her daughter two years ago.

Detectives later learned Spann had also married her son in 2008, but he filed for a divorce 15 months later citing "incest".
