A 51-year-old Everton fan has died after collapsing during his team's match against Stoke City today.

The man, who has not yet been named, was watching the game from the Sir Philip Carter Park Stand at Goodison Park when he became unwell around 15 minutes into the second half.

According to Everton's official Twitter page the Toffee's fan was given CPR by police officers before an ambulance arrived but he passed away shortly after being rushed to Aintree Hospital.

The club issued a statement saying it was "deeply saddened" by what had happened and "the thoughts and prayers of everybody at the football club are with his family and friends."
