Premier League footballer Andre Gray has apologised for tweets posted from his account and denied he is homophobic.

The 25-year-old Burnley striker, who scored in his team's 2-0 victory against Liverpool on Saturday, said he wanted to apologise for the tweets posted four years ago.

Gray described the comments as mistakes and asked for "forgiveness" from anyone offended by them.

The former Brentford and Luton play posted a statement on Twitter, saying he had changed in recent years and is trying to become "a better person".

The tweets, which are said to have been deleted, were posted before he joined Burnley.

The club released a statement saying it does not condone "discriminatory behaviour" but added "these are social posts from four years ago, and in this time he has completely transformed his life".
