Charlotte Dujardin finally accepts golden proposal at Rio 2016 after four-year wedding delay

Olympics star Charlotte Dujardin has told ITV News she will finally get married after a public plea from her fiance during her latest golden victory.

But she said her future husband Dean Golding was under no illusions as to his place in her sporting life.

She said: "When I got with Dean (on) the first date I said, right, I'm just going to let you know right now that my horses will always come before you. And if you don't like it you know where the door is."

Dujardin won Team GB's 40th medal of the Rio Games as she took the individual dressage title on her beloved horse Valegro to be crowned a triple gold medallist.

Dujardin admitted her commitment to sporting eventing had forced her to delay the key events in her private life.

"We were meant to get married after London," she said. "With competing and training it just got taken away. But I was so busy it didn't really happen."

"So Dean wrote this message to me yesterday ... so he's made it very public. It's going to have to happen next year I think."

The Enfield-born rider, 31, became the first British woman to retain an individual Olympic title with her 93.857% routine beating her closest competitors from Germany.

Dujardin said she has no plans to stop but paid huge tribute to the 14-year-old horse who is heading into retirement after a glittering equestrian career.

"As I went into the arena and trotted around the outside it was like he held my hand," she said.

"I could feel it. And it just made me feel so reassured. I felt I'm fine, I can do this."
