Usain Bolt wins Olympics 100m final at Rio 2016
Usain Bolt has won an unprecedented third successive Olympic 100m title by beating two-time drug cheat Justin Gatlin at Rio 2016.
Bolt, 29, confirmed his status as the fastest man on the planet and the greatest sprinter in history by overcoming a sluggish start to overtake Gatlin in the final few metres to win in 9.81 seconds.
The Jamaican received a rapturous reception from the crowd while American Gatlin, who has twice been banned for doping, was loudly booed.
He is now a step to his goal of winning a historic "triple-triple" combination of gold in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay in three consecutive Olympics.
The Jamaican, who is also the 100m world record holder, confirmed in February that the Rio Olympic Games would be his last.
Bolt admitted he "expected to go faster" but was delighted with the win.
"I told you guys I was going to do it. Stay tuned, two more to go," Bolt told the BBC.
Asked about the crowd's reaction to Justin Gatlin, Bolt said: "For me I was surprised. It is the first time I have come into a stadium and they booed someone. It was shocking."
The sprinter later tweeted that his victory was for the Jamaican people.
ITV's Good Morning Britain caught up with Jamaicans watching the race who reacted with joy to their hero's victory calling him a "living legend".
