Donald Trump's foreign policy comments appal critics but his straight talking still appeals to supporters

The further Donald Trump falls behind in the polls the tetchier he becomes.

And the tetchier he becomes - the more his poll ratings tumble.

Today he is making a major speech on foreign policy, and in particular on his plans to defeat ISIS.

Expect Trump at his most potent - with promises to work with any country - regardless of their strategic and ideological positions - in the new global battle against radical Islamist terrorism.

Expect Trump at his most controversial - with plans to vet those who want to come to America from countries where radical Islam is a clear and present danger.

Trump may follow the teleprompt today after some incendiary off the cuff remarks last week landed him in trouble, although he show no signs of "reigning it in".

But even if he does, his critics say he is at his weakest and most exposed on foreign affairs.... with a new straight talking style which threatens to bring to an end decades of American diplomacy, replacing it with Trump-style real politik which could redraw global alliances.

His views on NATO, China, North Korea, and Russia have already caused concern and offence.

But his supporters don't care. His straight talking works for his voters as much as it appalls his opponents.

And his opponents don't mind either; they believe his tetchy behaviour and controversial positions are helping them.

The Democrats think is digging himself a hole, and left alone, he will fall into it as the swing voters move away from him in horror.

But as Hillary pulls away in the polls, the only comfort for Donald Trump is that the election is still several months away.

And there are still three national debates to come between him and Hillary Clinton.

And she is NOT trusted by the majority of Americans according to the polls.

There is still time.....

Everyone has underestimated Donald Trump so far - and they would be ill advised to do so again now.
