Syrian White Helmet rescuer who saved 'miracle baby' reportedly killed in airstrike
A Syrian rescue worker who became famous around the world after saving a baby buried for 16 hours has been killed in an airstrike.
Khaled Omar was a member of The White Helmets, a Syrian civil defence group that has rescued countless civilians during the five-year civil war,
In 2014 the 31-year-old became famous globally when he was filmed saving the "miracle baby" from a bombed-out house in Aleppo.
After searching the home for hours The White Helmets were preparing to give up when they heard crying from within the rubble. They kept digging and eventually managed to rescue the baby boy.
Yet on Thursday he was reportedly killed in an airstrike while carrying out a rescue mission in the war-torn city.
Two other members of his team were also reported to have been injured.
Mr Omar, who was married and had a baby daughter, is one of around 2,600 volunteers working with The White Helmets across Syria.
