Helen Glover and Heather Stanning claim rowing gold at Rio 2016

Helen Glover and Heather Stanning have stormed to win the Women's coxless pair at Rio 2016.

Their winning time of 7:18.29 was almost a second quicker than silver medallists Genevieve Behrent and Rebecca Scown from New Zealand.

Hedvig Rasmussen and Anne Andersen from Denmark edged out Team USA to claim bronze.

Glover and Stanning won the event in London 2012 and remain undefeated in 37 races, stretching back to 2011.

Speaking to the BBC after their race, they said: "Defending a title it means so much. The pressure was pretty immense".

Team GB were among the first to pass on their congratulations and said their performance was "truly inspirational".
