Appeal over 'reckless near-miss' between drone and passenger plane
A "reckless" near-miss between a drone and a passenger plane approaching Newquay Airport is being investigated by police.
A Flybe plane carrying 62 people from London Stansted was two miles from Newquay airport and flying at approximately 900 feet on Tuesday afternoon when its pilot reported the near collision, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
"Police immediately conducted a search of the area but neither the drone nor its operator could be located," Inspector Dave Meredith said in statement.
A spokeswoman for Newquay airport has told ITV News that "there was no danger of collision" but that the drone posed a danger to incoming flights.
Air traffic control reported the incident to police.
"The drone should not have been flown in that area without ATC clearance and posed a potential danger to incoming flights," the spokeswoman added.
