Human chain saves woman trapped in car in raging floods
Remarkable video has shown rescuers forming a human chain to save a woman trapped in her car in torrential and rushing flood water that has claimed two lives in the US state of Maryland.
At least 25 buildings were destroyed or damaged by the floods in Ellicott City as more than a month's worth of rain fell between 7pm and 9pm on Saturday night.
The footage shows the brave group battling to reach the vehicle in Ellicott City, which is around 12 miles west of Baltimore, amid the deluge.
One man is seen being swept away by the power of the waters only to return to lead the rescue effort in front of a gallery on the city's Main Street.
The video was filmed by gallery owner David Arditti and posted to Facebook by his wife Sara.
"Unbelievable video shot by my husband Dave during the flood as he and several other men rescue a woman from her car floating down Main St right in front of our business, Still Life Gallery at about 8:30pm July 30th," Mrs Arditti wrote.
"Dave was at the top of the human chain holding the next man's hand and filming with the other. The man who got washed away was incredibly lucky."
The video has gained more than a million views and been shared more than 22,838 shares.
Those commenting on the footage hailed the rescue team as "true heroes".
