WikiLeaks releases audio recordings purportedly obtained from hacked Democratic Party emails

WikiLeaks has released files of what it said were audio recordings obtained from hacked emails of the Democratic National Committee.

The release is the second batch in a series of leaks that have rattled the Democratic Party, and comes after Hillary Clinton officially received the party's presidential nomination on Tuesday.

On the eve of the opening of the Democratic National Convention, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chair of the Democratic National Committee, resigned over leaked emails which revealed party officials actively favoured Hillary Clinton over former presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders during the presidential primary.

The leaked emails angered supporters of Mr Sanders, and hundreds took to the streets of Philadelphia on Sunday to express their discontent.

The FBI said it plans to investigate the email leak.

It said in a statement: "A compromise of this nature is something we take very seriously, and the FBI will continue to investigate and hold accountable those who pose a threat in cyberspace."

The latest leak comes after Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump challenged Russia to find "missing" emails belonging to Hillary Clinton.
