British Council pledges investigation after worker accused of mocking Prince George as 'looking like a f****** d*******'
The British Council has vowed to investigate after one of its senior employees was accused of commenting on social media that Prince George "looks like a f****** d*******".
Angela Gibbins, head of global estates at the organisation, reportedly made derogatory comments against a picture of the three-year-old royal on Facebook that someone had captioned: "I know he's only two years old, but Prince George already looks like a f****** d*******."
Ms Gibbins' comments reportedly refer to Prince George as "royal, rich" and "advantaged", reference "white privilege" and say he will "never know any hardship".
The British Council - which promotes the UK and the English language abroad, has a Royal Charter and counts the Queen as its patron - said the alleged comments were not representative of the organisation's views.
A spokeswoman for the organisation said:
Ms Gibbins alleged comments, which were report by The Sun newspaper, apparently read: "White privilege. That cheeky grin is the innate knowledge he's royal, rich, advantaged and will never know *any* difficulties or hardships in life.
"Let's find photos of 3yo Syrian refugee children and see if they look alike, eh?"
When she was criticised by other Facebook users, Ms Gibbins is said to have responded: "I'm sound in my socialist, atheist and republican opinions.
"I don't believe the royal family have any place in a modern democracy, least of all when they live on public money. That's privilege and it needs to end."
