Sanders fans boo his call for them to vote for Hillary Clinton
A crowd at a Bernie Sanders speech in Philadelphia booed when the Vermont Senator called on his supporters to get Hillary Clinton elected.
Speaking to his delegates in the city where the Democratic National Convention is being held, the Senator, who was Clinton's closest rival in the race to become the Democratic Presidential Nominee, was first cheered when he declared: "We have got to defeat Donald Trump".
The crowd erupted into booing however when he then said: "We have got to elect Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine."
Sanders' followers shouted "We want Bernie" in a show of anger at both Clinton's win in the presidential nomination race and emails leaked on Friday which suggested the Democratic leadership had tried to sabotage Sanders' campaign.
Earlier Sanders supporters jeered Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who has resigned over the alleged sabotage revealed in the leaked emails.
Sanders later told supports: "Brothers and sisters, this is the real world that we live in. Trump is a bully and a demagogue."
Bernie Sanders has endorsed Hillary Clinton in her bid to become President, and she will be the first woman to be nominated for the US presidency by a major political party.
