Prosecutors to appeal to extend Oscar Pistorius jail term
Prosecutors will appeal to extend Oscar Pistorius' six-year sentence for murdering his girlfriend, South African media has reported.
The Paralympic gold medallist was jailed earlier this month for killing Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013.
The sentence was lighter than many people had expected and the 29 year old will be eligible for parole in around three years.
Pistorius killed Miss Steenkamp when he fired a gun four times at a bathroom door in his house.
He maintained during his trial that he shot as he was scared, believing that an intruder was behind the door and about to attack him.
He was found guilty of murdering Miss Steenkamp by an appeals court last December. Pistorius initially received a five-year sentence for a manslaughter conviction in 2014.
