Mother gives birth to third set of twins in just over two years
A mother has given birth to her third set of twins in just over two years.
Danesha Couch, from Kansas, USA, gave birth to daughters Darla and Dalanie on June 17.
They were born less than a year after their twin sisters Delilah and Davina, who were born on May 29, 2015, while her first set, boys named Desmond and Danarius, were born on April 13, 2014. Desmond died shortly after birth from complications of prematurity.
All three sets of twins are fraternal and the 20 year old says she has given birth to all of her children without the use of fertility drugs.
The odds of having three sets of twins are around 88,000 to one.
Miss Couch, who has had a cesarean section with each pregnancy, said: "People just consider me like a freak of nature when I tell them."
She said she goes through 35 nappies a day and spends $100 (£76) a week on formula for her two one year olds.
"I was surprised on my second time because me and their dad were discussing it, jokingly," Miss Couch told ABC News.
"I feel blessed that I can even have babies. When I talk to women that can't have kids, I consider donating my eggs."
Dr Marjorie Greenfield, of University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, told ABC News that although Miss Couch's situation is rare, having multiple sets of twins occurs partly for genetic reasons.
"The way you get fraternal twins is by releasing two eggs," Dr Greenfield said. "Identicals are not formed by releasing two eggs. If you release more eggs, therefore, you have a greater chance of having twins."
