Two senior Islamic State commanders killed in US air strike

Two senior commanders of so-called Islamic State have been killed in a US air strike in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, the Pentagon said.

Basim Muhammad Ahmad Sultan al-Bajari, the group's deputy war minister, and Hatim Talib al-Hamduni, a military commander, were targeted in the strike on June 25.

The announcement comes as Iraqi forces continue to make progress in their fight against the group.

Ground forces, backed by US-led coalition air support, retook the city of Fallujah.

Attention is now shifting to Mosul where a battle to liberate the city is expected to start soon.
