Michael Gove's wife suggests he secure 'guarantees' before supporting Boris Johnson
Michael Gove's wife has expressed concern about Boris Johnson's bid for the Tory leadership, according to a leaked email seen by Sky News.
Sarah Vine told her husband that he should seek "specific" guarantees before backing Johnson, who is currently the favourite to succeed David Cameron.
But she accidentally emailed the advice to a member of the public along with her husband and his staff, Sky News said.
In the email she also mentions Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre and media mogul Rupert Murdoch, suggesting that they will only back Mr Johnson's bid for leadership with Mr Gove's support.
The letter read: "You MUST have SPECIFIC from Boris OTHERWISE you cannot guarantee your support.
"Crucially, the membership will not have the necessary reassurance to back Boris, neither will Dacre/Murdoch, who instinctively dislike Boris but trust your ability enough to support a Boris Gove ticket.
"Do not concede any ground. Be your stubborn best," she assures her husband at the end of the email.
