Miss Great Britain Zara Holland informed she has been stripped of title after Love Island antics
Miss Great Britain Zara Holland has been informed that she has been stripped off her title over her recent antics on Love Island.
Producers of the ITV2 show told the 20-year-old the news on Friday morning and she has decided to remain in the show.
On Thursday, Miss Great Britain organisers said it was with "deep regret" that the 20-year-old had been "formally been de-crowned" after she had sex with fellow contestant Alex Bowen in scenes that were broadcast on Wednesday.
The pageant also tweeted that it had "no problem at all with sex", but that it could not "condone what happened on national tv".
They also said they would meet Holland on her return to the UK from the house in Majorca "to fully explain our decision and will wish her the very best going forward".
The decision prompted a huge response on Twitter, where many users expressed their support for Holland.
Caroline Flack, who presents of the show, tweeted that she felt "even more sorry for Zara now she's been de-crowned, adding, "are we living in the dark ages?"
On Thursday's show, Zara appeared to sincerely regret her actions the night before, saying: "You know when you're in the moment and it just happens. That's really not like me at all. Why couldn't we have just gone to sleep?"
Zara's revelation that she had sex with Alex shocked her fellow Love Islanders, including her closest ally Kady.
Zara will be replaced by runner-up Deone Robertson, who had been crowned Miss North Lanarkshire, and will now compete in the Miss World competition.
