MP Jo Cox shot and stabbed near Leeds, office confirms
A Labour MP has been shot and stabbed near Leeds, ITV News has been told.
The MP for Batley and Spen, a former aid worker for Oxfam, the NSPCC and Save the Children, was hurt in Birstall, West Yorkshire.
An eyewitness said the 41-year-old mother-of-two was left lying bleeding on the pavement after the attack, which happened near the town's library.
She was reportedly preparing to hold one of her regular advice surgeries at the library when she was injured.
Ms Cox was elected to the seat of Batley and Spen at the last general election in 2015.
West Yorkshire Police said there was an "ongoing incident in Birstall", while Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it was "aware" of an incident but had no further information.
Her office would not comment on her condition.
