Jo Cox's maiden speech: 'I'm proud I was made in Yorkshire'

In her maiden speech in the House of Commons after she was elected as an MP in 2015, Jo Cox declared: "I am proud that I was made in Yorkshire, and I'm proud of the things we make in Yorkshire".

The Labour MP for Batley and Spen used the speech to advertise her non-conformist attitude to politics, and her pride in her constituency in which she was "born and bred".

She started by celebrating the diversity in her constituency, adding "whilst we celebrate our diversity, the thing that surprises me time and time again as I travel around the constituency is we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us".

Talking of the manufacturing present in Batley and Spen, Jo Cox said "we can boast the full range of industries", adding she was "proud of the things we make in Yorkshire".

Jo Cox was shot and stabbed in Birstall in West Yorkshire, and rushed to hospital where she died from her injuries.

A 52-year-old man has been arrested.
