Kimbo Slice: Legendary MMA fighter dies

Kimbo Slice, star of Mixed martial arts (MMA), has died aged 42.

The fighter - who shot to fame through his online street fighting videos before competing in UFC and Bellator - died in hospital in Florida on Monday night.

His cause of death is still unknown.

Slice, real name Kevin Ferguson, last fought in February but his victory was overturned when he tested positive for steroids.

He had been due to fight in London at an event in London.

Scott Coker, the president of Bellator, said the industry was "shocked and saddened" by the loss of "one of the most popular MMA fighters ever".

"We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family," he said.

"One of the most popular MMA fighters ever, Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport.

"Outside of the cage he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man.

"His loss leaves us all with extremely heavy hearts, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ferguson family and all of Kimbo's friends, fans, and teammates."
