Smoking plane shuts one of world's busiest airports
Smoke on a Korean Air Lines plane forced a mass evacuation before take-off and briefly shut down all air traffic at one of the world's busiest airports.
The 302 passengers and 17 crew members exited down four emergency slides while fire engines rushed to the scene at Haneda Airport in Tokyo.
Smoke had been seen billowing from the Boeing 777's left engine on the runway located aside Tokyo Bay.
Images from the Japanese national broadcaster NHK showed the plane being sprayed with foam.
Around 30 passengers initially said they felt unwell, NHK reported, and an officials later said seven people were injured, without giving more details.
All runways at the airport were closed in the aftermath of the engine fire.
The Korean Air Lines flight had been bound for Seoul in South Korea.
Around 75 million passengers travelled through Haneda Airport last year.
The airport handles around 550 flights a day.
